The Portland harbor exports the largest volume of wheat in the United States. The Columbia River is the third largest grain exporting center in the world. The Port of Portland is also the third largest auto import gateway in the country. Additionally, the Port is the 17th largest container port in the United States and the 5th largest port on the West Coast for Export tonnage.
More than 1000 businesses in Oregon and Washington use the Port's marine facilities, which are served by a network of interstate freeways, Union Pacific and Burlington Northern Santa Fe rail lines, and the Columbia/Snake river barge system.
