Background The Port signed an intergovernmental agreement (IGA) with the City of Portland's Bureau of Environmental Services (BES) to fund or cost-share work aimed at revegetating portions of the Columbia Slough owned by the Port.
The main objective of this project is to enhance vegetation communities along the banks of the slough in order to:
Status A total of 73.5 acres have been placed into the revegetation program. The BES will have met their obligations for ground preparation, planting, post-planting maintenance and monitoring activities on all sites by 2008. All sites have met the established target rate of 50 percent survival (including desirable recruits) as the performance standard for trees, 40 percent for shrubs and an introduction of native species into the herbaceous layer.
