January is National Human Trafficking Prevention Month, dedicated to raising awareness about human trafficking and educating the public about how to identify and prevent this crime.
We have an ongoing partnership with the Blue Lightning Initiative (BLI) – a program led by the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Transportation – to help train PDX and Port of Portland employees to identify potential traffickers and human trafficking victims, and to report their suspicions to federal law enforcement.
Want a chance to win $50? Watch this 25-minute video on common indicators of trafficking that airport employees may encounter, and how to immediately report suspected trafficking to law enforcement. Once you're done, enter to win a $50 gift card (open through Saturday, Jan. 31) by registering your completion.
Throughout the month, there are several opportunities to learn more about the campaign and raise awareness.
- Join us on Tuesday, Jan. 20 to learn about human trafficking and what you can do to spot and assist potential trafficking victims. We will also have participation from A Village for One, a nonprofit that supports victims of Human Trafficking.
